The Enugu State Government on Tuesday received the sad news of the demise of Chief Patrick Omeje Jnr, Chairman Nsukka Local Government Area.
Omeje died in the early hours of Tuesday after a period of illness as revealed by his family.
Omeje who was a member of the People’s Democratic Party and the party’s LGA flag bearer was returned as Chairman amidst heavy opposition from his people who accused him of poor performance during his first tenure.
In a protest walk against him, youths carrying a mock coffin walked around the streets barely five months ago.
But, the Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Aroh in a letter dated 16th June 2020 described Omeje as a renowned politician and grassroots mobilizer.
Aroh on behalf of the State Government expressed its heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON and the people of Nsukka Local Government Area.
“The State Government is indeed proud of the various contributions Chief Patrick Omeje made to the development of Nsukka Local Government Area. We are deeply saddened by the news and pray the Almighty God to grant us all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and grant his soul eternal rest, Amen,” Aroh prayed.
