Just six months ago, on January 1, 2020, the West African Pilot News (WAP) was conceived to resurrect the ideology of a similar newspaper published 82 years ago by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. The first phase was to establish an independent news media dedicated to serving the masses with no interference. Today, the paper has surpassed its projected mission and timeline, spreading through an estimated 5 million readership daily through her strategic content networks.
Pilot was expected to stretch its coverage through various sub-Saharan Africa regions, but started with Nigeria, a West African country saturated with more than 200 million inhabitant. Currently, 80 per cent of engaging readers are 18-35 years and are from various Nigerian regions, according to readership demographic reports retrieved from both the social media and Google Analytics.
To show appreciation and also create a retention rapport, WAP designed a three-month N3.5 Million Free Data give away, ranging from 50MB to 1 GB to both existing and prospective readers. The contests will be held JUNE, JULY, and AUGUST. Winners will be randomly selected at the end of every month and have their data uploaded to the phone numbers listed on the Entry Form. But this gesture coincides with WAP’s community covenant with the masses, which entails not just giving them a voice, but also creating the platform to announce their concerns, celebrate their communities and their accomplishments, and promote their cultural values.
