NewsNigeriaAso Rock in Disarray ―Is the Buhari’s Regime Safe from Army Rebellion?

Was there an attempted coup or pugnacious feud between internal cliques?

Was there an attempted revolt within the Army ranks against Aso Rock, the seat of Nigeria’s government? But the stakeholders of the Buhari regime are already in disarray. They have been in the panic mode over a high level of uncertainty within the military hierarchy. “They are scared to use the word ‘coup’, but in the real sense, this regime might face a military takeover if care is not taken,” confided an informant under strict anonymity.

The tension is unprecedented, WAP reliably gathered. Lips are tightly sealed while meetings are held in-and-out, group-after-group. Cliques of regime’s confidants and proxies of an ailing President Muhammadu Buhari, equally, have been busy trying to dilute a pugnacious in-house vendetta that involved the First Lady, Aisha Buhari. She has been trying so hard to fight off a heavy-handed mob currently running her husband’s office, but the forces are just too much.

The first confusion started around January when reports of rebellion in the military around Yobe State broke out. The Nigerian Army quickly denied it, assuring the President an unprecedented loyally. WAP had reported prior, about an ill-equipped Nigerian Army complaining and blaming the regime for living them to fight a fully equipped Boko Haram.

To make matters worse, Boko Haram went on a killing spree butchering both civilians and the Army in various bizarre incidents. Talks among top commanders made it to social media about a dilapidating state of the Nigerian armed forces. For instance, in March, the Army embarked on a major reshuffle of key officers, including General Olusegun Adeniyi, the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, involved in a leaked video that revealed the superiority of Boko Haram’s weaponry over the Nigerian Army.

Today, the disjointed structure at the Aso Rock has been linked to the Nigerian Army, triggering concerns about a possible rebellion that might shake the Buhari’s regime. Grounded in total dormancy over a prolonged illness, President Buhari has been reported to have lost complete control of his regime.

Just last week, shooting at the Presidential Villa set the entire country in another panic mode prompting the regime to publicly announced that the President was indeed safe. The shots were traced to a scuffle between the First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari, and her husband’s Personal Assistant Sabiu Yusuf, who is also his nephew.

“The truth is that Baba is no longer active, and different inner groups have taken over his job. Aisha has been saying this since 2016, and nobody listened. Now it might be late because there are many stakeholders now” confided a source.

WAP reliably gathered that the regime has not been sincere conveying information about the ongoing confusion to the public. Initially, it was reported that officers involved in the shooting have either be arrested, released, or redeployed. The regime further claimed that President Buhari had ordered an investigation into the incident. These thread of contradictory responses to the ongoing chaos has triggered various rumors regarding the potency of the current regime in sustaining constitutional control of power.

While this total disconnection among some key groups in regime persists, the disordered fractures of an ill-equipped military sector might just unleash a surprise, WAP gathered.
