CoronavirusNewsNigeriaGov Ugwuanyi Constitutes Medical Committee on De-escalation of COVID-19 As Enugu State Records 68 New Cases

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has constituted a 12-man Ad hoc Expert Medical Advisory committee as recommended by Nigeria Medical Association, Enugu State chapter.

The committee is saddled with the responsibility to proffer effective measures for de-escalation of the pandemic in the state.

The Constitution of the committee is coming in the wake of the recent rise in number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

As of 22nd June 2020, Enugu State recorded 68 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number of reported positive cases to 144; 110 active cases, 29 discharged and 5 deaths.

 In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, the committee will “engage with leaders of various Religious Groups, Market Associations, Professional Associations, Labour Unions, National Union of Road Transport Workers Enugu State Chapter, Association of Tricycle Riders Transport Union Enugu State, Civil Society Groups, Organized Private Sector and all other relevant Stakeholders and recommend urgent and effective measures for de-escalation of transmission of Coronavirus infection in Enugu State, with due regard to all extant Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Protocols for containment of the spread of the Coronavirus infection (COVID-19)”.

Chairman of the 12-man ad hoc committee is a Consultant Cardiologist and Professor of Medicine, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu, Prof. Emmanuel Ejim.

Other members include Rev. Can. Dr. Ifeanyi Onah, Dr. Nneka Unaogu,  Dr. Nnamdi Nwosu, Dr. Joseph Enebe, Dr. Obinna Anikwe, Dr. Obinna Nduagubam, Dr. Onyinye Chime, Dr. Aneke Emmanuel, Dr. Chinemerem Dan Onwuliri, Dr. Okafor Sunday and Dr. Emeka Onoh.
