ENUGU — The increasing levels of new daily COVID-19 cases in Nigeria are due to the fact that testing has improved at the same time the pandemic is peaking in the big countries, as reports of the virus’ global activity by the World Health Organization indicate.

Sadly, the number of confirmed cases of covid19 in Enugu State as revealed by the Commissioner for Health, Obi Emmanuel Ikechukwu on Thursday has risen to 202 as 28 new cases were confirmed.

43 cases have been discharged, 5 persons dead and 154 undergoing treatment; 72 healthcare workers were infected representing approximately one third (1/3) of the recorded confirmed cases.

The new cases in Enugu and other states of the federation brought the number of confirmed cases to 22,614 in Nigeria.

As of Friday, 11:18 am 26 June 2020, while a total number of 122,155 samples were tested, the nation now records 14,243 active cases, 7,822 discharged cases, and 549 deaths.

The daily rise has become a huge concern to the state government; hence they inaugurated a medical committee charged with responsibility to proffer measures in curbing the spread.

Also, the general public are advised to still adhere to all the precautionary measures outlined by the Nigerian Center for Disease Control, NCDC, and the State Government despite the eased lockdown.
