For a governor who has spent his entire regime attacking the President, Muhamadu Buhari on virtually every issue, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike amazed the country yesterday with actions that spelled the opposite.
Shortly after President Buhari approved an N78.9 billion reimbursement for some federal road projects in Rivers State, Governor, Wike went on a rampage with praises. Besides series of print advertisements showering praises to the President, Wike invited him for a state visit.
In the advertisement which ran on some national newspapers, Wike thanked the president for approving the refund. He said the gesticulation is proof that Buhari’s love for the people of the state and as a president for all. Wiker said his administration is willing to work with the federal government to develop the state.
According to, Wike “I wish to on behalf of the government and people of Rivers State appreciate and most sincerely thank you for graciously approving the refund of the sum of N78.9 billion to Rivers State Government, as cost of the execution of federal government road projects in Rivers State.”

Wike, also used his official twitter page to blast the President, claiming that the government of President Buhari had done nothing for his State. He recently accused the regime of playing politics with COVID-19.
But his praises of this same regime aroused some suspicion among political observers who are still trying to unravel the mystery. WAP gathered that Wike’s about-turn approach started as far back as last year after the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal confirmed his election. Governor Wike was the first to congratulate the President, claiming it was better to offer public congratulations than visiting him at night. Wike accused some governors of the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP) of double standards, claiming they visit President Buhari at night and pretend in the day.
Our newsroom also learned that Wike’s recent comradeship with Buhari was unconnected to his reelection experience. He received little support from his PDP stakeholders when he was fighting his reelection. However, the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the governorship candidate of Action Democratic Party (ADP), Victor Fingesi against Wike’s re-election as the Rivers State Governor.
