The total number of reported confirmed coronavirus cases has been growing rapidly in Enugu State as almost on a daily basis new cases in tens are recorded.
As of Wednesday 8th July 2020, 37 new cases were confirmed bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 418; while 186 cases are currently receiving treatment, 221 cases have been discharged and 11 covid19 related deaths.
This negative trend is worrisome as these are just the reported laboratory-confirmed cases; what of the unreported cases?
No doubt the State is in her community spread phase yet a sample of the opinion of residents in the State reveals sheer ignorance and it-is-not-my-portion phrase the order of the day.
The compulsory wearing of face mask which is one vital preventive measure is not complied with as many are seen in public places wearing the supposed face mask on their jaw; we must take responsibility for our health.
In Nigeria, as at this day, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, records that out of the152,952 samples tested, there are 29,789 confirmed cases; while 17,012 cases are active, 12,108 have been discharged and the death toll rose to 669.
Despite these daily updates and other publicities, many still believe that covid19 in Enugu and Nigeria at large is a hoax; it is time to change approach.
