Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi has said he is in the presidential race to end the suffering of Nigerians.
Obi, who stated this during a rally in Ado, the Ekiti State capital, restated his vision to transform Nigeria from a consumption-based to a production-based nation.
“People are suffering in this country and we want to end the suffering. Today there is no security and unity in the country, we would unite and secure this country.
“People are hungry in the country, our youths have no job, they don’t know what to do, our youths are not doing anything, and what we want to do is to move the country from consumption to production. If we start to produce in the country, our youths will start to have jobs.”
Obi, who insisted that he remained the most qualified among other candidates for the February election urged Nigerians to do away with religious and ethnic sentiments and vote for him based on his integrity and commitment to good governance.
“The election is in days, and I want you to vote for me because I am the most qualified candidate,” he implored.
“This election is not by tribe, let no one tell you it is by tribe, I am from the southeast, so if they say it’s by tribe, I will say it’s my turn but we are not contesting based on tribe. I am contesting as a Nigerian who is the most qualified.
“This year’s election is about character and whom we can trust, and because of this I am the most qualified person in the race, we are going to stop corruption.
“If it is about commitment, I have compassion and commitment. Please vote for me to end poverty, insecurity, and unemployment.”
Earlier, the chairman of the LP in Ekiti State, Ayokunle Odunayo described Obi as the most qualified, credible, and fit for the job among other presidential candidates.
