…Tells Nigerians to boycott his literary works
A group, under the aegis of Free Nigeria Movement (FNM) has berated the Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka over his comment on the 2023 general elections and has accused him of pursuing a selective witch-hunt instead of focusing on the real issues surrounding the elections.
Recall that the group has been protesting for the past 21 days at the Unity Fountain, Abuja over alleged irregularities and manipulation of the presidential election results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The convener of the Movement, Dr. Dr. Moses Paul while speaking at a press conference on Monday in Abuja, said that Soyinka’s comment against the Vice Presidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP), Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed was a selective witch-hunt.
He noted that the statement amounted to standing with oppressors in a burning house, while enjoying a rat chase, and lamented that Soyinka was expected to be the father of the nation.
He called on Nigerians to boycott Soyinka’s literary works, articles, events, and public engagements that celebrate his achievements.
“We frown at his remarks because of his emotionless detour from the real issues of the election to pursue what appears as a selective witch-hunt.
“The Prof. should be a father to all Nigerians irrespective of ethnicity, religion, party or social affiliations. However, he has betrayed the trust of many Nigerians who before now held him in high esteem,” he said.
He added, “It is on record that Prof. Wole Soyinka never condemned the shameless episode of ethnic profiling, instigation and hate speech by elements such as Musiliu Akinsanya (a.k.a MC Oluomo), Bayo Ononuga, Femi Fani – Kayode, and a host of other atrocious persons. Or are their actions not fascist? Nor did he condemn Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu’s insistence on flouting INEC’s guidelines, the Electoral Act and his rush to declare a winner.”
He said that the movement reported Prof. Yakubu to the United States, United Kingdom, United Nations and other International Communities over his compromise and conspiracy, thereby making the country to operate its democracy far away from truth, faith and hope for citizens.
Moses noted that they got the international community involved because the appropriate quarters that should entertain their complaints were part of the conspiracy, lamenting that Prof. Yakubu who should be a father to all citizens irrespective of political and religious bias has turned out to be the worst enemy of Nigerians.
