Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State was on Saturday conferred with the Grand Service Star of Rivers State, GSSRS, the highest honour in the state, by his counterpart, Governor Nyesom Wike.
Other individuals bestowed with the honour include the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and the incoming Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The investiture took place at the state awards and pre-inauguration dinner held at the banquet hall, Government House, Port Harcourt.
The GSSRS, the highest of four categories of honours, was conferred on Uzodimma, Rufai, Akpabio and Fubara by the outgoing governor in recognition of their contributions to the unity and the progress of the nation.
The second highest honour, Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State, DSSRS, was conferred on 160 individuals.
The third category, the Governor’s Medal of Service, GMS, was awarded to 15 individuals, including some security personnel of the outgoing governor and drivers in his convoy.
The Rivers State Medals Award, RSMA — the fourth category of honours — was conferred on 11 persons, including five dedicated primary school teachers.
