President Bola Tinubu will travel to France today to attend the summit for a new global financial pact convened by President Emmanuel Macron.
According to Dele Alake, the President’s special adviser on special duties, communication and strategy, the two-day summit will hold on the 22nd and 23rd of June.
The summit is for world leaders, multilateral institutions, financial experts and economists “to review and sign a new global financial pact that places vulnerable countries on a priority list for support and investment, following the devastating impact of climate change, energy crisis, and the after-effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Alake said they will also “take a more holistic look at the recovery of economies from the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, and rising cases of poverty, with a view to providing access to finance and investment that will leverage inclusive growth.”
The President will be accompanied to France by members of the presidential policy advisory council and senior government officials. He is expected to return to Abuja on Saturday.
This is President Tinubu’s first official trip to France. Before his inauguration, he left the country for Paris on March 22 following the conduct of the presidential election held on March 18.
His spokesperson, Tunde Rahman said he travelled to “rest and plan his transition programme ahead of May 29, 2023 inauguration” after a “very exhaustive campaign and election season.”
He returned to Nigeria on April 24, more than a month after his departure.
