The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has directed the immediate suspension of Onyii Wamah as the State’s Head of Service, HoS.
The Governor also relieved all permanent secretaries in the State civil service except John Pedro Iroakazi, the clerk of the House and U. G. Uche Ikonne, the solicitor-general, of their duties.
Kazie Uko, the chief press secretary to the Governor, in a press release yesterday, explained that the directive was a result of the inauguration of the judicial panel of inquiry tasked with the recovery of properties and funds belonging to the Abia State government.
Following Wamah’s suspension, the Governor has approved the appointment of Joy Maduka, the director of the Ministry of Education, as the acting HoS.
Uko said the suspended permanent secretaries are to hand over to the most senior director in their respective ministries, departments and agencies.
Since he assumed office on May 29, Otti has been practical about his commitment to good governance and the recovery of stolen state resources.
In line with this objective, the judicial panel of inquiry was set up to investigate the alleged mismanagement of government assets during the previous administration of former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and recover stolen ones.
