NewsNigeriaPoliticsU.S. court okays Atiku’s request for access to Tinubu’s CSU records

A U.S. District Judge, Nancy Maldonado has endorsed the ruling of Magistrate Jeffrey Gilbert which ordered Chicago State University, CSU, to release the records of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu to Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last general election, is contesting Tinubu’s election and his affirmation by the election petition tribunal on September 6.

He is requesting CSU to release Tinubu’s admission records, attendance dates, degrees, awards and honours received to support his claims that Tinubu forged the diploma certificate he presented in his election bid at the Supreme Court.

Judge Maldonado, on Saturday, gave CSU an ultimatum of 48 hours which expires at noon on Monday to release the documents to Atiku. She said CSU must complete all necessary filings concerning the release by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 3).

“Respondent CSU is directed to produce all relevant and non-privileged documents in response to Requests for Production Nos. 1 through 4 (as narrowed by Judge Gilbert and adopted by the District Court in its opinion) in Mr. Abubakar’s subpoena, by 12:00 p.m. (noon) CDT, on Monday, October 2, 2023,” the court ruled.

“The Rule 30(b)(6) deposition of CSU’s corporate designee must be completed by 5:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.”
