NewsNigeriaPope Francis prays for end to horrors by terrorists in Nigeria

Pope Francis has prayed for Nigeria over the spate of killings and insurgent activities by terror groups, commonly called bandits or terrorists, that have grown worse in recent times.

The Pope in his homily on December 31 expressed sorrow over the heartbreaking unhindered attacks in Plateau State on Christmas Eve that had continued sporadically for nine days.

Nearly 200 villagers were slaughtered with dozens injured and scores displaced from their homes.

“Unfortunately, the celebration of Christmas in Nigeria was marked by serious violence in the State of Plateau, with many victims. I am praying for them and their families. May God free Nigeria from these atrocities!” the Pope said.

In a post on his official X post, Pope Francis added, “Let us #PrayTogether for the victims of the severe violence in Nigeria’s Plateau State. May God free Nigeria from these horrors.”

The Pope also urged the world to be unwavering in their prayers for countries suffering from wars, including “the martyred Ukrainian people, the Palestinian and Israeli peoples, the Sudanese people, the martyred Rohingya, and many others.”

“May those with a stake in these conflicts listen to the voice of their conscience,” he added.
