Northern Youth Council Of Nigeria has condemned President Bola Tinubu for hike in electricity tariff.
The Group told the President to revert to the old tariff and also called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) to take action in the event that the President fails to heed to its demand .
The group disclosed this on Sunday through a press statement signed by Comrade Isah Abubakar, its National President, stressing that the outrageous increment in electricity tariff can only happen under a president who is divorced from the suffering of the citizens.
The statement read, “Tinubu’s lack of empathy is gross and appalling. It’s very unfortunate that the President hasn’t been on the page of reality.
“It’s on record that even before he became president, he was disconnected with the masses. His bills since 1999 have always been taken care of by the taxes of poor Lagosians.
“A lot of us are not surprised with his attitude towards the masses. The President needs to understand the purpose of governance is to bring ease and succour to the people, not hardship. It looks like the president is more interested in seeing the masses suffer and suffocate.
“We call on the President to have a rethink on the policy that will drag people into more suffering than they are already in.
“The removal of fuel subsidies has caused more havoc than we can imagine. Making things worse is the recent removal of electricity subsidy, which shouldn’t be the way to go at this critical time of his government.
“We urgently want the President to avoid any move that will continue to endanger the progress of the country as well as affect the livelihood of Nigerians.
“With the recent policy of increasing electricity tariffs, no doubt, the cost of production, particularly that of Small Scale industries, will be skyrocketed, which in turn will have a negative impact on the lives of the citizens,” the Group stated.
