Nigeria is set to celebrate its 64th Independence Anniversary with a low-key event, reflecting the current mood of the nation, the Federal Government announced on Thursday.
This was revealed on Thursday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume, during the inauguration of the Inter-Ministerial Committee responsible for organising the national event.
The Director of Information at the Office of the SGF, Segun Imohiosen, issued a statement on behalf of Senator Akume, who was represented at the inauguration by Hadiza Bala Usman, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination.
Usman emphasised that the 64th Independence Anniversary would be “low-keyed to reflect the trying times the nation is undergoing.”
The scheduled activities will commence with a World Press Conference on Thursday, 26th September 2024. This will be followed by a Juma’at Service on Friday, 27th September, and a Church Service on Sunday, 29th September.
The main events include a Presidential Broadcast and the Independence Day Parade on Tuesday, 1st October 2024.
The Inter-Ministerial Committee, which comprises key government officials, including ministers and security chiefs, has been tasked with planning, organising, and executing all activities. The committee is also responsible for documenting the anniversary events for posterity.
