The government of Anambra State has demolished the fence of the Nnewi home of Chief Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Biafra warlord. The demolition which occurred on Friday was to make space for the ongoing expansion of the Nnewi – Owerri road, which is currently under construction.

However, more than 24 hours later, Ojukwu’s fence remains the only fence that has been demolished throughout the entire stretch and its opposite. This suspected isolated demolition has raised questions as to whether the demolition was specifically undertaken with Ojukwu’s fence as a target, considering that as of the time of this report, no other fence before or after Ojukwu’s family house has been tampered with, including those opposite it.

For whatever purpose, the optics look uncomplimentary for the Anambra State Government, especially considering that the Odumegwu-Ojukwu family is already erecting an alternative fence, which will replace the old one after the old one now demolished was marked for demolition. These speculations gain credibility when examined closely because the spot covering Ojukwu’s family fence is not of any peculiar significance that would warrant its isolated demolition.

Since the assumption of office, there have been strong speculations that Governor Soludo is not favourably disposed to the APGA supreme leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu. In his first speech as Governor after his oath of office, Soludo failed to recognize Ojukwu. Though he went on recognizing all statesmen, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe inclusive; going as far as recognizing Dr. Michael I. Okpara, former Premier of Eastern Region, but he did not mention Ojukwu. Similarly, there is a recent speculation that Ojukwu’s portrait has been removed from the APGA uniform produced by the current Anambra State Government.
