MultiChoice Nigeria has announced that the 2025 edition of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija), the country’s most commercially successful reality television show, will commence on Saturday, 26 July, with a follow-up premiere on Sunday, 27 July.

This season, which marks the show’s tenth anniversary, is set to offer a record-breaking ₦150 million grand prize, the highest since the programme debuted in 2006.

The announcement was made during a press briefing held on Wednesday in Lagos, where organisers promised a landmark season in both content and production.

Returning as host is Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, who has been the face of the show since 2017 and remains one of its most recognisable alumni, having participated in the inaugural season.

Addressing journalists at the briefing, Obi-Uchendu gave a brief retrospective on the programme’s journey.

He said the Big Brother Naija has featured 197 housemates across its nine seasons and has aired for 709 days in total, with a combined prize pool of ₦637 million awarded to winners so far.

The most recent season, titled ‘No Loose Guard’, introduced a unique pairing format, where housemates were admitted into the house as duos before later competing individually.

The season concluded with the victory of Kellyrae, who secured the ₦100 million prize and became the first married housemate to win the competition.

Ahead of the 2025 edition, MultiChoice reintroduced physical auditions, held nationwide from 16 to 18 May, marking a return to pre-pandemic formats that allow in-person engagement with contestants.

According to the organisers, this tenth season is not merely a continuation of the format but a celebration of its cultural impact.

Over the years, BBNaija has not only delivered prime-time entertainment but also shaped careers, introduced new public figures, and driven brand engagement across the entertainment and commercial sectors.

The show will broadcast live on DStv Channel 198 and GOtv Channel 49, with daily highlights and weekly eviction programmes.
