The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has confirmed Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. The confirmation announced on Wednesday marked a turning point in the leadership of the Anambra-owned Institution, which Vice Chancellor Prof. Kate Omenugha has been in acting capacity since November 2023, during which time she has made remarkable progress in the administration of the university.
Prof. Omenugha’s confirmation followed a long process of an open call for applications for the position, which was entered by at least nine applicants. This process, which climaxed with an interview a few days ago, has now been concluded with the appointment of Prof. Kate Omenugha as the substantive Vice Chancellor.
In a statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, the appointment letter has already been issued to the Vice Chancellor. “The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR, has officially confirmed the appointment of Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, (COOU), Anambra State. The formal appointment letter was presented to Professor Omenugha by Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Secretary to the State Government, at a ceremony held at the Light House in Awka,” a part of the statement reads.
Since assuming office in acting capacity about 20 months ago, Prof. Kate Omenugha is building a new student experience at the university. With her three ‘Vs’ of Value, Viability, and Visibility, Omenugha is transforming both teaching and learning culture at the university. A cerebral Professor of Mass Communication and the second female professor of Mass Communication in Nigeria, she comes handy with leadership experience, having served meritoriously as Anambra’s Commissioner for Education for eight years. At Ojukwu University, Omenugha, has attracted several projects for the institution and recently attracted thousands of Euros in funding for the university.
Prof. Kate Omenugha’s confirmation has been received as one of the most befitting appointments by Soludo’s administration.
