LifestyleNewsNigeriaHilda Baci Back in Guinness World Records with Largest Serving of Jollof Rice

Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has made a return to the Guinness World Records (GWR) after cooking the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice in Lagos.

The feat, achieved in partnership with food brand Gino Nigeria, took place last Friday at Victoria Island and was officially confirmed by Guinness on Monday.

The massive dish weighed 8,780 kilogrammes and was prepared in a pot with a capacity of 22,619 litres.

According to GWR, Hilda used 4,000 kilogrammes of basmati rice, which accounted for more than 80 per cent of the total weight as required by the rules.

She also added 164 kilogrammes of fresh goat meat, 220 kilogrammes of Gino Asun and peppered chicken cubes, and 600 kilogrammes of her signature jollof pepper mix.

Cooking the meal required 1,200 kilogrammes of gas and lasted nine hours, producing 16,600 plates of jollof rice.

The atmosphere at the event was electric as chants of “Hilda, we want jollof” broke out while the dish was being prepared.

Videos posted on her Instagram page showed crowds cheering as the steaming plates were freely distributed in line with GWR’ rules that no portion of the dish should go to waste.

Hilda said it took “nine hours of fire, passion and teamwork” to prepare the dish “served with joy, love and community.”

Numerous people commented on how nice the food tasted.

“I didn’t realise it would be this hard and it has been a challenge. It’s a lot of hard work but really satisfying to achieve the record. This achievement also belongs to the people of Nigeria as they all contributed to the achievement,” she said.

Hilda is no stranger to global recognition. She previously held the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) at 93 hours 11 minutes in May 2023.
