HealthNewsNigeriaOver 150 Persons Infected With Skin Disease In Adamawa

No fewer than 150 people have been infected with contagious skin disease (scabies) in Guyuk Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The disease, which causes severe itching and rashes, has sparked concern among locals.
Abdul Garba Sheji, the Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer (DSNO) for Guyuk LGA said the disease spread across six wards to include Dukul, Bobini, Lokoro, Guyuk, Banjiram, and Purokayo.
The outbreak was first detected earlier this month and continues to spread rapidly.
“We have sent an inventory of the affected persons to the Primary Health Care Development Agency in Yola for immediate intervention.
“Health officials have since launched community sensitization campaigns to educate residents on prevention and control measures,” Sheji said.
The Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Authority, Guyuk LGA, Mrs. Eriya Daniel, who also confirmed the outbreak, appealed for swift support from both government and humanitarian organizations to curb the spread.
Residents of Guyuk are calling for urgent medical supplies and state intervention to prevent the situation from escalating further.
Environmental experts suggest the outbreak may be linked to the aftermath of recent flooding, which left several communities vulnerable to disease outbreaks.
