NewsNigeriaLagos Civil Society Storms Federal High Court, Secures Bail For Maureen Badejo

The Civil Society Coalition of Lagos State, in a powerful display of solidarity, converged on the Federal High Court in Ikoyi yesterday to stand against what they described as the persecution of Ms. Maureen Badejo.

Chanting the hashtag #Justiceformaureen, the activists and rights advocates filled the courtroom, ensuring the message of resistance against injustice was seen and heard. Their overwhelming presence served as a morale booster for the defendant and a clear warning against judicial high-handedness.

The protest action was jointly led by prominent rights bodies, including the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) and Advocates in Defence of Human Rights, Justice, and Culture (ADHURIC).

Speaking at the scene, coalition leaders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that no citizen is left to bear the full weight of the state without public oversight and support.

In a turn of events hailed by the coalition as a victory for activism, the presiding judge granted bail to Ms. Badejo. The court set bail at Fifty Million Naira (₦ 50,000,000) with two sureties in like sum.

While the coalition welcomed the bail grant, they noted that the fight is not yet over. “We are here today to show that the people are watching. The grant of bail is a small step, but we remain vigilant against the persecution of #MaureenBadejo. We will continue to mobilise until justice is fully served,” a representative from CDHR stated.

The coalition has vowed to maintain the momentum of the #Justiceformaureen campaign, urging members of the public to stay tuned for further directives as the case progresses.
