NewsNigeriaPoliticsAtiku Denies Reports About Retirement From Politics

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed widespread claims that he has retired from active politics, calling them false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Atiku Media Office said the allegation that he announced his withdrawal during a meeting with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was false.

The media team clarified that the former Vice President had not held any recent national-level meeting with ADC stakeholders, noting that his last engagement was with party members in Adamawa State.

“The only recent engagement he had was with stakeholders of the ADC in Adamawa State last Thursday,” the statement said.

The office stressed that a decision as significant as retirement would not be communicated through unofficial channels.

“An issue as fundamental and consequential as exiting active politics cannot, and would never, be communicated through rumours, faceless sources, or third-party fabrication. Such a decision, if ever taken, would be formally conveyed through the Atiku Media Office.

“This latest falsehood bears all the hallmarks of a coordinated disinformation campaign designed to create confusion, dampen momentum, and mislead the Nigerian public.”

The media office further alleged that the narrative may have been sponsored by political opponents.

It said, “only the government and its agents could have sponsored the ‘desperate narrative out of fear of what is coming.’”

Describing the development as the handiwork of “anti-democratic elements,” the team urged Nigerians to ignore the report and remain focused on national political developments ahead of the 2027 elections.
