Former presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Kwankwaso registered as a member of the party on Monday at Kwankwasiyya House in Kano, where he received his membership card in the presence of top political figures.

Those in attendance included David Mark, national chairman of the ADC; Aminu Tambuwal; Rotimi Amaechi; Peter Obi; Dino Melaye; and John Odigie-Oyegun.

His defection follows his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the platform under which he contested the 2023 presidential election.

Announcing his exit, Kwankwaso thanked the party for its role in his political career.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect,” he said.

“I seize this opportunity to express my profound gratitude for the honour and privilege of serving as the party’s national leader and its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.”

His defection comes months after Governor Abba Yusuf left the NNPP for the APC.
