Ahead of the reopening of schools on 12th October 2020 in Adamawa state, the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development on Tuesday organized a stakeholders meeting held at Adamawa state Universal Basic Education Board aimed to re-echo the need for school authorities to adhere to COVID-19 protocols.
During the meeting, the State Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development Mrs Wulbina Jackson threatened to sanction any school that fails to adhere to COVID-19 protocols.
Mrs Jackson stated that the ministry will pay visits to schools to supervise compliance with COVID-19 protocols, warning that schools that violate the safety protocols would be sanctioned.
“The aim of the stakeholders meeting is to draw out modalities on how schools will be reopened in basic and post-basic in the state.
“All stakeholders in the education sector should redouble their efforts in ensuring that the pupils and students are well taken care of while in school”. Jackson added
The Commissioner explained that life is precious and called on parents/guidance to make sure that their children wear face masks before sending them to school.
She charged the school authorities to ensure that pupils and students adhere to NCDC protocols by washing hands with soap under running water, use of hand sanitizers, and wearing face masks.
Dr Fahad Muhammad from Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) presented a paper on the update of COVID-19, while Dr Pembi Emmanuel from the State Ministry of Health presented a paper on safe school reopening readiness.
