Dr. Salisu Mu’azu, Permanent Secretary, Jigawa state Ministry of Health has confirmed the death of 100 persons as a result of cholera outbreak in 19 local governments within the state.
Mu’azu said the state has recorded over 5,000 cases of Cholera within one month, explaining that out of the number, 251 persons were admitted at various healthcare facilities across the state.
He said the state government, with support from UNICEF and Lafiya program, has formed a rapid response team to curtail the spread of the disease.
The Permanent Secretary then warned against the use of contaminated water, vegetables, food supplied from river banks, urging improved personal and environmental hygiene.
