Within August 2022 alone, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) impounded 2,823 unregistered motorcycles and arrested 13,081 motorcyclists nationwide in August 2022.
Recall that the Acting Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dauda Biu had directed sector commanders nationwide to commence an aggressive clampdown on unregistered motorcycles on August 1.
Biu, while briefing Journalists on the 2022 Ember Months campaign, the danger of night trips, and the ongoing nationwide enforcement on unregistered motorcycles in Abuja said the clampdown had become necessary to halt the activities of criminals who continued to use unregistered motorcycles to commit crimes.
The FRSC boss explained that the enforcement would boost national information and enhance intelligence gathering amongst the personnel.
The Acting Corps Marshal noted that criminal activities such as banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other forms of crimes were carried out mostly with unregistered motorcycles.
Biu, however, said the corps recorded 36, 884 newly registered motorcycles in the operation and completed the upload of 101, 895 registered motorcycles into the database of the National Vehicle Identification Scheme from the date of commencement.
