About 2,594 students were conferred with diplomas, degrees, and postgraduate degrees on Tuesday at the 14th Convocation of the Adamawa State University, Mubi.
At the ceremony held at Abubakar Barde Campus of the institution in Mubi, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, said: “For the first degrees, we have 23 in First Class (Honours) category. In the second class (Honours) Upper Division, we have a total of 635, while the second class (Honours) lower division, has a total of 1,448 graduands. 200 fall under the Third Class (Honour) Category and 18 would graduate with pass degrees. This brings the total number of our first-degree graduates to 2,408.
“For the postgraduate Degrees, where we have postgraduate diplomas, professional master, Masters with research thesis, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy respectively, this prestigious University will graduate 186 across our faculties”.
In his speech, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri announced an upward review of the annual scholarship allowances for Adamawa students in institutions of higher learning with 50% and directed the Scholarship Board to commence the review immediately.
Fintiri congratulated the University and People of Adamawa for the landmark achievement and encouraged them to put their hands on deck to ensure that all Master plans of the University are achieved.
“I commend the University for upholding the culture of academic prowess through diligent research and teaching. I am particularly happy to note that there is a commensurate reward for hard work at the university.
“Viable research findings, in the agricultural sector, will impact a good number of Adamawa citizens in the struggle to achieve food security and enhanced living standards,” he said.
