NewsNigeriaPoliticsSenate condemns sit-at-home in South East

The Nigerian Senate has condemned in totality the observance of sit-at-home orders in the South East and the nefarious activities of Finland-based sectional leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Simon Ekpa.

It also urged the Chief Executive, President Bola Tinubu to collaborate with the Finnish government to extradite Simon Ekpa for prosecution.

The resolutions are sequel to a motion sponsored by Osita Izunaso, the senator representing Imo West (Orlu), and co-sponsored by the Senate presiding officers and all the senators from the South East geopolitical zone.

The lawmakers expressed concern over the human and economic losses recorded as a result of the recurrent sit-at-home orders, insisting that “something must be done urgently.”

Adding to the discourse, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe who represents Abia South senatorial district said that Abia State is the epicentre of the malaise.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, described the sit-at-homes as a national problem that has grounded economic activities in the region, saying that “this must stop.”

The lawmakers, therefore, called for a thorough investigation by relevant stakeholders to bring the sponsors of the criminality to book.
