The Enugu State House of Assembly on Friday accepted a letter from the Enugu State Governor Dr. Ndubuisi Mbah, communicating 15 nominees for consideration and possible acceptance as Commissioners in the state.

The nominees are Professor Ndubueze Mbah, Mrs. Ngozi Eni, Prince Lawrence Eze, Professor Sam Ugwu, Pharmacist Chika Ugwoke, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, Professor Emmanuel .I. Obi, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, Dame Ugochi Madueke, and Barrister Lloyd I. Ekweremadu.

Others include Engineer Gerald Otiji, Nathaniel Urama, Dr. Malachy Agbo, Mr. Aka Eze Aka, and Adaora Chukwu.

The message signed by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia states, “While this may not be the exhaustive list, I am optimistic that this request will receive your usual expeditious consideration.”

Accepting the nominees list, the Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu directed the Clerk of the House to communicate to the nominees the requirements for their consideration.

“Each of the nominees should send 25 copies of their Curriculum vitae to the Clerk’s office on or before the close of work on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, and appear for interview on Thursday 3rd of August, 2023; time: 10 am.”

Meanwhile, the Honourable Speaker, Uche Ugwu has expressed huge concern over the activities of non-state actors in the state and their instrument of operation- the sit-at-home order effect on the Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs in the state and South-East.

“It is worrisome that non-state actors who do not understand what political economy means or what drives the economy of a state or country want to take over and cripple the economy.”

Speaker Ugwu further states that while the State Government employs about 10%, the SMEs employ about 90%; “You can imagine a whole 90% being controlled by non-state actors.”

He then called on the masses to join hands and confront the monster called sit-at-home.

“Unfortunately, this particular civil war is being fought in our land by ourselves and on ourselves.”

He further commiserated with the bereaved families of the deceased, who lost their lives during the Ogbete Main market traders’ protest on Wednesday.
