The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says the recent attacks on its Yola operations office and warehouses by hoodlums had delayed the distribution of the Special Economic Livelihood Emergency relief materials in Adamawa.
Director General of the Agency, Mustapha Habib Ahmed revealed this during a courtesy call on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in the Government House, Yola Tuesday, saying some of the items have been carted away by the hoodlums.
Ahmed called on the government to provide a long-lasting solution to the problem by relocating the office and the warehouse to safer locations in Adamawa State due to persistent attacks and the vulnerability of its present location.
Represented by NEMA Director General Operations, Mrs. Fatima Kasim, the DG commiserated with the government and people of Adamawa over the recent looting of its Yola warehouses by some hoodlums, the recent boat mishaps in Fufore and Yola South local government areas.
“State Government should strengthen disaster management at the community level through establishing Local Emergency Management Committees in each local government area,” he said.
Responding, Governor Umaru Fintiri said the youths were misguided to attack the warehouses and commended NEMA for addressing emergencies in the country.
Represented by the Chief of Staff Government House Yola, Dr Edgar Amos Sunday, the Governor attributed the frequency of attacks on the office and the warehouses to its present location and the government is considering its location.
