Kogi State chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), has condemned the gruesome murder of an unarmed woman in Kotonkarfe and violent attacks on supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by thugs suspected to be loyal to the gubernatorial candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Muritala Yakubu Ajaka.
The group, in a communique issued at the end of its meeting in Lokoja on Tuesday stated that the sad development was a return to the dark days.
The communique which was signed by Hon. Taufiq Isa, the Kogi State chairman of ALGON, stated that the attack and murder of APC supporters by suspected SDP supporters is an indication of accepting defeat before the November 11 gubernatorial election.
The communique read, “This sad development is a big setback to security in Kogi State. It made a mess of the efforts Governor Yahaya Bello has put in place to promote peace and unity, before, during and after the elections.
ALGON said it’s getting clearer by the day that the SDP has officially adopted violent attacks on APC supporters.
“The security agencies must use this case to reassure the citizens of the state that they’ll not return to the era of violent politics. Both the sponsors and perpetrators of these criminal acts should be treated as enemies of Kogi State.
“They should be exposed and made to face the wrath of the law in such a manner that others who harbour this evil intent will be deterred, “the communique added.
The group sympathized with the Executive Chairman of Kogi Local Government, those who sustained injuries and most especially family of the deceased.
It urged APC supporters across the LGAs to remain calm as the Chief Security Officer of the State, Alh. Yahaya Bello won’t succumb to the antics of mischievous politicians.
