The heavy downpour recorded within the week has rendered about 563 persons in the Unguwan Tana community of Yola North local government area in Adamawa State.
The flood was attributed to the overflow of River Benue due to heavy downpours and the release of water from the Lagdo dam in the Cameroon Republic.
The attendant effect of the disaster has disrupted academic activities at Government Day Secondary School Limawa-Jimeta in the state capital as the victims have occupied seven classes as shelter.
Principal of the school, Musa Hassan Jada confirmed that the classes were occupied by some of the displaced persons when Deputy Governor of the state Kaletapwa Geroge Farauta visited the community to assess the situation.
Jada said measures are being taken to ensure continuous learning activities in the school.
Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Kaletapwa Geroge Farauta said the government is determined to ensure uninterrupted academic activities in the school.
Farauta stated that the government is partnering with nongovernmental organizations to bring succor to victims of the disaster, and called on those living along riverine areas to relocate to the higher and safer ground as volume of water in the river Benue increases.
