Katsina, Plateau State Governments has further relaxed the 24-hour curfew earlier imposed on some towns and cities in the two states following nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests marred with violence in the affected areas.
According to the Director of Press to Katsina state Governor, Abdullahi Aliyu Yar’adua, in a statement on Saturday, said, “The curfew which restricted movement from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am has now been relaxed to begin from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am across the state.”
In the same vein, Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau state in a statement on Saturday in Jos, said there would now be free movement between 9 am and 7 pm, effective Sunday.
According to the statement, the Secretary to Katsina Government of the State, Abdullahi Garba Faskari announced that the Acting Governor, Malam Faruk Lawal appreciated the people’s cooperation and the general conduct of the security personnel, while the government was trying to control the situation.
It added that Malam Faruk Lawal was satisfied with the reports on the improvement of the security situation throughout the state and therefore ordered the review of the curfew with immediate effect.
The statement added that Malam Faruk Lawal advised people to remain lawabidinglaw abiding as they continue with their daily routines.
While, the Plateau State Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, ordered further relaxation of the 24-hour curfew earlier imposed on Jos-Bukuru metropolis following violent protests in the area.
Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to Gov. Caleb Mutfwang said the decision to relax the curfew followed an advisory by security agencies on the situation in the area.
“In light of the improved security situation in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, the Plateau Government has further relaxed the curfew, effective Sunday, Aug. 11.
“Residents are now permitted to move freely for their lawful activities between 9 am and 7 pm daily until further notice.
“Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, in consultation with security agencies, has authorized this relaxation.
“The adjustment is to allow law-abiding citizens to continue with their economic activities while maintaining public order,” the statement said.
Mutfwang, who thanked all the security agencies for effectively enforcing the curfew, said that the government would continue to review the security situation as it improve and urged residents within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activity for prompt action.
Recall that the government on Sunday imposed a curfew following the looting of public and private assets by some hoodlums in Jos North Local Government Area of the state.
