Taraba state governor Agbu Kefas has threatened to depose any traditional ruler who allows communal crises in his domain.

The Governor gave the threat during a peace meeting between the Fulani and Gommu communities in the Karim-Lamido local government area of the state.

Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali during the meeting, said his principal was not happy that he claimed several lives over the recent communal crisis in the area.

He said: “The government will not tolerate killings and destruction of property in any community and traditional rulers must encourage peaceful coexistence among their subjects and any traditional ruler found encouraging disharmony in his domain will be deposed”.

In his speech, the National Chairman of Tabbital Pulaaku, Ardo Njarenga Galdo who spoke on behalf of the Fulani community, blamed youths from both sides for causing a crisis in the area.

Galdo urged the leaders of the Gommo community to caution their youths, adding that Fulanis would continue to caution youths against causing a crisis.

He said they had been living peacefully with their neighbours over the years.

Also in his remark, Mr. Bitrus Bala Sarkin Yara, the chief of Bikwin’s chiefdom, commended Governor Kefas for encouraging peaceful coexistence among the diverse people across the state.

He stated that the traditional rulers in Karim-Lamido would continue to work for peace, in accordance with the state government’s commitment to ensuring peace in the state.
