President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following the elevation of Prof Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a letter forwarded to the Senate, President Tinubu sought the lawmakers’ confirmation of Dr Doro’s appointment to fill the ministerial vacancy created after Yilwatda, the immediate past Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, assumed his new position as APC chairman in July.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, Dr Doro, born on 23 January 1969 in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, “has over 20 years of multidisciplinary experience in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, strategic leadership, and community engagement in the UK and Nigeria.”
The statement further described Dr Doro as “an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with NHS frontline experience across urgent care, walk-in centres, GP practices, and hospital settings.”
He holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA with a focus on IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice.
Beyond his professional background, the President’s nominee is said to have “led youth mentorship and social impact initiatives in the diaspora and local communities.”
Dr Doro’s nomination brings the Tinubu administration’s cabinet composition closer to full representation following several changes arising from political appointments and redeployments since the President’s inauguration in May 2023.
The Senate is expected to screen and confirm the nominee in the coming days.
