The Independent National Electoral Commission – INEC, has said that they are ready for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship Election. With only about 17 days left, politicking is now nearing climax as no fewer than four major contenders challenge the incumbent APGA government in Anambra State.

Speaking during a media forum convened in Awka, the Anambra State capital, by the INEC, the Commission assured of its readiness to conduct free and credible elections. Delivering his remarks, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun, who was represented by Mr. Wilfred Ifogoh, Deputy Director, Information and Publicity, INEC, Abuja, said that the Commission is fully ready for the election. “INEC is fully prepared for the November 8, Anambra State Governorship Election. INEC is ready and committed to a free, fair, and credible election,” he assured. He also noted that as of now, the Commission has dispatched some materials for the election. “All non-sensitive materials are already deployed to Anambra State,” Mr. Ifogoh said, assuring that all sensitive materials will be dispatched in due course.

As part of INEC’s preparation for the Anambra guber poll, Mr. Ifogoh urged all newly registered Anambra voters to pick up their PVCs from Wednesday, 22nd October. He further called for the media community to also register online to participate in the observation of the gubernatorial election by Thursday at the latest. This, according to Ifogoh, is because “INEC’s partnership with the media is fundamental.”

Reacting, the Anambra State chapter chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Dr. Emeka Odogwu, who was represented by Dr. Okey Onuegbu, the Secretary of the Union, gave assurance that the Anambra State media community will continue to do its job. “We will continue to do our work professionally,” Onuegbu said.

In her remarks, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra State, Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu, extolled the media community in Anambra State, commending their professional conduct and huge support to the Commission. “The media has helped us to drive home our message.
