…Security Forces Intensify Search
Two of the 25 female students abducted from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, have reportedly escaped from their captors, local authorities said.
According to Hussaini Aliyu, an official from Danko Wasagu Local Government Area, the two girls fled as they were being led into the bush by the bandits and made their way across farmland to freedom.
Aliyu stated that the girls are “back and are safe”, though he added that one of them sustained a leg injury and requires medical attention.
The abduction took place on Monday morning, when armed assailants stormed the school, attacked staff and security personnel, and abducted 25 students from their hostel.
The police confirmed that the school’s vice-principal, Hassan Makuku, lost his life during the raid, while a guard, Ali Shehu, was shot in the right hand. Shehu reportedly later died in the hospital.
In response, the Kebbi State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Bello M. Sani, has deployed additional tactical units in conjunction with military personnel and local vigilante groups to mount a coordinated rescue operation.
Security forces are reportedly combing possible escape routes and surrounding forests in search of the remaining abducted girls.
At the federal level, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an urgent search to secure the release of the students.
Idris stressed that “protecting every Nigerian, especially schoolchildren, remains a solemn responsibility of the State,” and reiterated that the government “will not relent until this objective is achieved.”
