EducationNewsNigeriaCRC-N Decries Shutdown Of Schools

The shutdown of schools and deboarding of many boarding institutions over the growing number of attacks on schools across the country has been described as a major setback to national development.
The Christian Reformed Church–Nigeria, CRC-N, stated this in a communiqué issued at the end of its 161st General Church Council (Synod), held at CRC-N No. 1 Takum, in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The communiqué signed by CRC-N President, Rev. Dr. Isaiah Jirapye Magaji, and General Secretary, Rev. Joseph Agbu Ahmadu Garba, the Church expressed alarm that attacks on schools persist, and the Synod urged the Federal Government to urgently take “decisive and tangible actions” to protect citizens from escalating insecurity.
While acknowledging what it described as notable improvements in national security under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, CRC-N condemned renewed attacks on Tiv communities in Takum, which have resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.
The Church commended Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas and the Commander of the 6 Brigade, Jalingo, for their swift intervention and efforts to restore peace.
CRC-N also criticized what it described as political complacency among some government officials and expressed concern over public comments by Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, which it said appeared sympathetic to bandits and had not been adequately scrutinized by authorities.
The Synod also resolved to strengthen the Church’s digital footprint by producing Bible materials in audio, visual, and digital formats across various languages to enhance accessibility in an increasingly digital world.
It also approved restructuring Children’s Sunday School into age-based classes to improve discipleship and ensure smooth transition into the adult congregation.
