Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has congratulated the Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Rev. (Dr.) Mathew Man-Oso Ndagaso on his election as the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN).

In a goodwill message through his media office in Abuja on Wednesday, Atiku commended the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria for being an exemplary institution on democratic transition, and a strong national moral voice, advocating for national peace, good governance, credible elections and care for the vulnerable members of the society.

The Waziri Adamawa expressed his solidarity with Nigerian Christians as they observe the Lenten season, noting that the commencement of the Lenten season and Ramadan this year on the same date is an indication that God does not discriminate, but unites people through His ways.

‘‘We thank God for this year’s gift of the Lenten season, which has reminded us all of the necessary sacrifices and life of charity we need to live and promote for the good of humanity and our relationship with God, our creator.’’

The ADC chieftain expressed profound gratitude to the leadership of the Catholic Church in Nigeria for serving as collaborators in nation-building.

He urged Archbishop Ndagoso to commit his presidency to the time-tested principles of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, in collaboration with well-meaning Nigerians and other democratic institutions, to promote transparent and orderly 2027 elections.

The former Vice President wished the new President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria a successful tenure and good health of mind and body as he takes on this huge task.
