The 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) has been postponed from its original March dates and rescheduled to run from 25 July to 16 August 2026, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced.

In a statement released on Thursday, CAF said the change was agreed after consultations with its partners, including Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and other stakeholders, to “ensure the success of this important women’s competition, in the light of certain unforeseen circumstances.”

Originally slated to take place in Morocco from 17 March to 3 April 2026, the tournament will now be staged later in the year as preparations continue.

“After discussions between CAF and its partners, FIFA and other stakeholders, CAF decided to reschedule the dates of the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026 to 25 July – 16 August 2026; to ensure the success of this important women’s competition, in the light of certain unforeseen circumstances. Preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026 are underway, and all the parties are confident that it will be very successful,” the statement added.

The rescheduled tournament will also retain its role as Africa’s qualifying pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with the four semi-finalists earning automatic places in the global showpiece.

Nigeria’s senior women’s team, the Super Falcons, is the defending champion, having lifted the WAFCON title in the last edition. They were drawn in Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt, and Malawi before the postponement.

The delay follows weeks of speculation and concerns over the readiness of organisational arrangements in Morocco. In recent weeks, reports suggested that host preparations were lagging, and there was uncertainty over whether the event could go ahead as planned in March.

Despite earlier tensions, CAF remains confident that the tournament will be successful on the new dates, allowing participating nations additional time for logistical planning.
