The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed a viral Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result claiming a candidate scored as high as 394, describing the document as “entirely fake.”
The result slip, widely circulated on social media platform X, alleged that a female candidate, Okon Winniefred Sampson, achieved 394 out of a possible 400 in the 2026 UTME — a claim that quickly drew public attention.
But in a statement issued on Sunday, JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, expressed concern over how quickly the fabricated result gained traction, even among educated Nigerians.
According to the Board, the document in circulation does not match its official result format and contains several visible irregularities.
“All results at the moment are view-only,” the statement stated.
JAMB explained that UTME results are currently accessible only through its official checking channels and cannot be downloaded or printed at this stage. It added that the existence of a result slip in circulation is, on its face, suspicious.
The Board further noted that the document appears on a fabricated template, which alone is enough to discredit its authenticity. It also pointed to the registration number on the slip, describing it as inconsistent with its system-generated format.
Benjamin stressed that the irregular “20269” pattern seen on the document is a clear red flag.
“A purported result slip currently being circulated, claiming that a candidate scored 396 in the 2026 UTME, is entirely fake. It is surprising that such a fabrication is being shared by otherwise well-informed Nigerians,” the statement read.
“Firstly, the Board has clearly stated that UTME results are view-only. The circulated document appears to be on a fabricated result template, which, on its own, is sufficient to indicate that it is not authentic.
“Secondly, the Board’s registration numbers are system-generated and do not follow the pattern ‘20269’ as seen on the fake slip. There are several other inconsistencies that, even at a glance, expose the result as fraudulent.
“The public is strongly advised to disregard this fake result and rely only on official channels for accurate information. All results at the moment are view only.”
