President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja following the Eid-el-Kabir holiday in Lagos State.
The President’s aircraft touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at exactly 5:17 p.m. on Tuesday, where he was received by top government officials, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.
Tinubu’s stay in Lagos during the Sallah period was far from ceremonial. He hosted a steady stream of political leaders and stakeholders paying the traditional homage, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima and the leadership of the Senate led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Governors under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by its chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, also met with the President, alongside All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders from Oyo State and a delegation of party candidates from Lagos State.
The flurry of visits underscored the growing political momentum within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general election cycle.
Beyond political consultations, Tinubu also carried out official duties during the break. On Monday, he attended the International Fleet Review at the Eko Atlantic City waterfront, marking the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy, where he commissioned three naval vessels: NNS Oloibiri, NNS Mambila, and NNS Gurara.
In a separate engagement, the President received his Beninese counterpart, President Romuald Wadagni, in a meeting described by officials as reinforcing bilateral ties, regional cooperation, and economic partnership between the neighbouring countries.
Tinubu’s visit to Lagos also coincided with his participation in the APC primaries, where candidates were selected for multiple elective offices, including governorship, legislative seats, and the presidency.
According to the presidency, the President voted at his own primary and emerged as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election, securing what it described as an overwhelming endorsement from nearly 11 million party members nationwide.
