The Federal Government has begun preparations for the 2027 national budget and plans to present it before the end of 2026, the Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, has said.
Uzoka-Anite disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“The intention is to present it before the end of the year,” she said in response to a question on the timeline for the budget presentation.
The minister did not provide further details on the proposed budget or the size of the spending plan.
She also announced that the FEC had approved the revised 2026 National Policy on Food and Nutrition and the National Nutrition Bill 2026.
According to her, the documents were developed through collaboration among the Office of the Vice-President, the ministries of Budget and Economic Planning, Agriculture, Livestock, Education and Health, as well as the private sector, the National Assembly and development partners.
Uzoka-Anite said the policy and proposed legislation would provide a framework for coordinating food and nutrition programmes nationwide, while strengthening funding arrangements and accountability.
She added that the measures were aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of Nigerians, particularly children, by reducing malnutrition and childhood stunting.
The minister said the National Nutrition Bill, an executive bill, would be transmitted to the National Assembly for consideration.
The development follows the Federal Government’s adoption of the National Policy on Food and Nutrition 2026–2035, which is designed to guide interventions at federal, state and local government levels over the next decade.
The policy forms part of broader efforts to tackle malnutrition through coordinated government action and sustained funding for nutrition programmes.
FG Targets 10,000 Participants for CANEX 2026
Meanwhile, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, has said the Federal Government is targeting more than 10,000 participants for the 2026 Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) Weekend in Lagos.
Oduwole disclosed this during the State House briefing, saying the four-day event would hold from November 5 to 8 and bring together stakeholders from across Africa’s creative industries.
The event will feature participants from sectors including fashion, film, gastronomy, performing arts and technology, with a focus on promoting investment, business partnerships and access to new markets.
“In November of 2024, Mr President approved that Nigeria bid for the Intra-African Trade Fair, which is the largest trade fair in Africa,” she said.
Oduwole said Nigeria was preparing to host both CANEX Weekend 2026 and the Intra-African Trade Fair in 2027.
She explained that CANEX would provide a platform for showcasing Nigeria’s creative economy and connecting entrepreneurs with investors, financiers and potential business partners.
The minister said the initiative aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s emphasis on harnessing the talents of young Nigerians to drive economic growth and create employment opportunities.
“It’s an opportunity to connect; it’s an opportunity to do deals,” Oduwole said.
She added that the event would support the Federal Government’s efforts to expand non-oil exports and take advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to increase trade across the continent.
CANEX Weekend 2026 is organised by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in partnership with the Nigerian Government and other institutions. The event is expected to attract creative professionals, investors, policymakers and industry leaders from Africa and the diaspora.
The gathering will also provide opportunities for business-to-business and business-to-government engagements, with the aim of helping African creative enterprises secure investment, establish partnerships and reach international markets.
