The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) has confirmed the death of a patient from Lassa fever in a letter dated Thursday, 30th January 2020; the patient died on Thursday at the UNTH accident and emergency unit.

According to Dr Obinna Onodugo (CMD), the hospital is currently tracing contacts while also working with the Enugu State Epidemiology Team and the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to ensure that proper measures are taken at the mortuary and staff protected against any new case.
While assuring all that the hospital is well equipped with materials needed to keep her staff safe, medications for all those exposed directly or remotely are in stock.
The CMD called on all to be very careful, have a high index of suspicion and observe universal safety precautions.
