In a bid to secure the lives and properties of citizens, the Enugu State House of Assembly has directed Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) and Town planning authorities to stop approval or renewal of license for cooking gas installation within filling stations in the state.
The resolution was based on the recommendations as presented by Emma Ugwuerua, Chairman House Committee on judiciary, public petitions, ethics and privileges, to the House based on the committees’ findings in response to the public’s petition on “Save Our Souls” from cooking gas installations within filling stations in Enugu state.
The House further aligned itself with the Federal Government directive that all ADD-ONs (cooking gas plant) to petrol stations nationwide should be dismantled.
Subsequently, the House received a message from the Enugu State Governor, Rt Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on the appointment of Special Advisers; it was immediately considered and approved.
A petition from St Francis Chambers, Agbani in Nkanu West LGA in Enugu State was presented to the House by James Akadu, member representing Igboetiti West constituency and chairman House committee on Education, Science and Technology. The petition is on the exorbitant development fees in the sum of three hundred thousand naira (N300, 000=) and two hundred and fifty thousand naira (N250, 000=) per newly admitted students of faculties of medical science and Law, and ESUT, respectively.
The House however directed the committee on Education, Science and Technology to carry out an investigation and report back its findings within one week.
