The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) team that visited Enugu State to access her response to the Coronavirus pandemic has expressed satisfaction with the safety measures planned and set up by the State Government to contain the spread of the virus in the State.
The team led by Tajudeen Arowolo said this after an interactive session with the State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi, Head of the State’s Multi-Sectoral Rapid Response Team (MRRT), at the Enugu State Government House yesterday.

This commendation is coming in the wake of activation of three isolation and treatment centers by the State Government, ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation of Colliery Hospital Enugu, closure of all educational institutions, markets, churches, land boundaries and fumigation of the State.
The five-man team commended the enthusiasm with which the Response team discharges their duties and promised to make recommendations to its National body on how to further support the Response team in the discharge of her duties; NCDC supports states in strengthening their preparedness and response capacity.
The members of the NCDC 5man team are Tajudeen Arowolo, Prof. Kabir Sabittu, Deacon Chinenye Nwaekpe, Amedu Michael Onoja and Dr. Adeke Azuka.
No Vaccines yet
Reports from around the world indicate there are no medicines to prevent or treat the virus are currently available, though researchers in both the public and private sectors have started clinical trials of possible vaccines and other medications. Officials at the U.S. National Institutes of Health said a vaccine would likely be ready to be administered to the public by mid-2021.
To lower the chances of getting sick, health experts continue to emphasize strict adherence to the advice of local and international agencies such as NCDC and WHO on what proper COVID-19 prevention procedures to follow. The World WHO continues to urge people to wash their hands frequently, cover their noses and mouths when sneezing, and avoid anyone who appears sick.
It advises anyone who is feeling sick or who was in close contact with someone who has the virus to call their medical providers or local health officials. According the WHO, wearing a medical mask is not recommended unless a person is suspected to have the coronavirus or is caring for someone suspected to have the virus.
Nigeria’s NCDC has also urged people to observe the six feet social distancing, and take similar precautionary measures to avoid was widespread of the deadly pandemic in the country.
