The World Health Organization (WHO) Chief on Monday gave a new warning about the coronavirus outbreak, saying “the worst is yet ahead of us.
The Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus sounded the alarm as many countries are easing the social distance measure that is aimed at restricting the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The outbreak has infected some 2.5 million persons across the world and killed over 166,000.
The WHO Chief and others have previously raised concerns about the possible future spread of the pandemic through Africa, where there is no developed health system in place.
According to NBCNews, Tedros told reporters at WHO Headquarters in Geneva on Monday that “Trust us. The worst is yet ahead of us.”
He then called for collective efforts to fight the tragedy, noting that it is a virus that many people still don’t understand.
Ghana is one of the African countries that re lifted partially the coronavirus lockdown. In Nigeria, many people have not been adhering to the lockdown directive arguing that there is no food on their table.
