The speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, says that the well being of a woman is the well being of a nation. As such, the importance of women cannot be underplayed in any nation.

Speaker Gbajabiamila in a meeting with WHO delegates identified gender-based violence as one of the more serious issues that the House of Representatives are confronting head-on.

The Speaker said that post-COVID-19, the House of Representatives will be launching a new legislative agender. He said the problem ought to be approached scientifically.

He described gender-based violence as a pandemic, because a pandemic, as he added, is a disease that ravages the whole world. He further highlighted that the perpetrators of this violence, are mentally deprived.

According to the Speaker, Nigeria can break all sociocultural barriers, and has vowed to intensify the fight against gender-based violence.
