The Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Edward Ubosi, today thanked God for his survival from COVID-19.
Ubosi made this known during a Special Thanksgiving Holy Mass conducted by Rev Fr. Calistus Ani on Tuesday at the Legislative Complex in Enugu.
“It was quite an experience but I thank God for my healing; God in His infinite mercy restored back my health,” he said.
“Many still doubt the existence of this virus but I tell you that Covid-19 is real; do well to adhere to all measures stipulated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC,” Ubosi advised.
The Speaker then prayed for the repose of the soul of Chijioke Ugwueze, their fallen colleague who represented Isi-Uzo Constituency; Ugwueze died on 19th June 2020.
On legislative matters, four Executive Bills today scaled first reading at the Assembly. The Bills are:
- Enugu State Polytechnic (Amendment) Bill (HB.6), 2020.
- School of Public Health Nursing and Health Technology, Nsukka, Amendment Bill (HB.7) 2020.
- School of Health Technology, Oji River, Amendment Bill (HB.8) 2020.
- A Bill for a law to amend the Survey law cap 147 Revised laws of Enugu State (HB.9) 2020 Second Amendment Bill.
The House also received a report of the Joint committee on Rural Development and CSDP, and Judiciary, Public Petitions, Ethics and Privileges on a bill to repeal the Enugu State Agency for Community and Social Development law No18, 2010 and to provide for the re-enactment of Enugu State Agency for Community and Social Development and for other connected purposes.
“The bill if passed into law will reposition CSDP, improve socio-economic lives of rural communities, and help CSDP to key into World Bank standard for effective and efficient service delivery, which will, in turn, discourage rural to urban migration in our state,” said Paul Nnajiofor, Chairman of the joint committee.
As the House received the report, the Speaker urged his colleagues to critically study the bills to enable them make robust contributions during subsequent readings of the bill.
